Henkell Freixenet acquires majority stake in Irish importer Cassidy Wines

Sparkling wine giant Henkell Freixenet has purchased a 60% stake in Irish importer-distributor Cassidy Wines.

The wine supplier will continue to conduct business under the Cassidy Wines name though within the umbrella of the Henkell Freixenet group. The Irish company will also continue to operate from its bonded warehouse in Dublin’s Citywest.

According to Henkell Freixenet “the enlarged business will offer customers and suppliers access to a broader portfolio and enhanced distribution capabilities across the Republic of Ireland”.

Cassidy Wines was established in Dublin in 1977 and has a portfolio that includes leading wineries such as Catena Zapeta, Ricasoli, Louis Roederer and E. Guigal.

CEO at Henkell Freixenet Dr. Andreas Brokemper said that “Cassidy Wines has an excellent reputation, deep roots in the Irish market and strong, long-standing relationships with customers and suppliers”.

Adding that “By joining forces, we are combining these strengths with Henkell Freixenet’s international portfolio and expertise”.

For the first time in Cassidy’s 50 year history, it will no longer be family-owned and operated. Reflecting on this significant change, MD at the Irish business Neil Cassidy added: “This partnership marks an exciting new chapter for our business.

“For our customers and partners, it means access to a broader portfolio while continuing to work with the Cassidy Wines team they have come to know over the years, with the same high-quality, tailored service and commitment they value today.”

The move marks another significant change within the Henkell Freixenet group. Earlier this month the business’ UK arm Freixenet Copestick sold the merchant Jascots to Italy’s CDGH, as reported by Harpers.
