On the town: Mango Tree, 46 Grosvenor Place, London SW1X 7E

Published:  18 January, 2007

Spending a Monday night in a party atmosphere with free-flowing cocktails and Thai-style canaps, while watching a Thai fashion show and traditional dance display, is a surreal experience.

Rarely does my week get off to such an alternative start and it's definitely the best way to try and pretend that it's still the weekend.

The reason for this pleasingly chaotic event was a mixture of Thai-related publicity stunts and in particular the London restaurant Mango Tree's stand for authentic Thai fine food.

Hallgarten and Cape North Vodka were among the sponsors of the event and they are entirely to blame for my headache the next morning.

Eddie Lim, managing director of Mango Tree and Awana, made a speech and said something along the lines of I don't worry about getting a Michelin star, but it would be nice'.

Of course he worries about it. DC
