Ruinart offers once in a lifetime trip to top UK sommelier

Published:  23 January, 2019

Time is running out to sign up for the Ruinart Sommelier Challenge 2019, which will result in one young UK-based sommelier heading on an all-expenses paid trip to Champagne.

Described as four days “of friendship, happiness, enjoyment, interactive training and tasting” with “amazing, talented people” by last year’s UK winner Tony Lecuroux, the trip will take place in July following a hunt to find the world’s up and coming sommelier talent.

For the UK round, 30 places are available at a seminar and blind tasting competition in London hosted by Ruinart’s Chef de Caves Frédéric Panaïotis, Ronan Sayburn MS and Lecuroux on February 25.

The successful candidate will join others from 16 locations around the world on the trip.

The itinerary includes an in-depth tasting of Dom Ruinart and the NV Blanc de Blancs category, a visit to the CIVC and time to explore both Reims and Paris.

Ruinart is the oldest established Champagne house.

Its annual challenge was conceived by Panaïotis as an international training and mentoring programme to support sommelier wine education with two parts to the challenge on February 25: explore some of the more technical aspects of winemaking and to choose the winning sommelier to attend the trip to in July.
