Women of the Vine & Spirits partners with Wine Intelligence to launch ‘gender and wine’ report

Published:  28 June, 2018

Women of the Vine & Spirits - a US organisation at the forefront of promoting gender parity in the industry, has joined forces with Wine Intelligence to produce a 'gender and global wine consumption' report.

The “The truth behind gender and global wine consumption: Do women really approach wine in a different way to men?” will be based on feedback from more than 10,000 wine consumers in key wine markets around the world.

The alliance, which was announced today at Women of the Vine & Spirits' International Summit in London, claimed the report would be the first published report to investigate in depth the impact of gender on consumers’ relationship with wine across multiple markets.

In an era where the role of gender was very much front of mind, an independent “statistically reliable and valid” report was essential for the industry, said Lulie Halstead, CEO, Wine Intelligence.

“The collaboration is a fantastic opportunity for both our organisations to combine our skills and networks for the benefit of our members and clients, and to share our knowledge and experience,” she said.

Deborah Brenner, CEO of Women of the Vine & Spirits, said: “We look forward to working with Wine Intelligence to collaborate on this first-of-its-kind report, so the data can be best utilized to make informed decisions regarding strategies in marketing and business development.”

The report is due to be launched this September.

Today’s summit, which is dedicated to “fostering women’s leadership in the alcohol beverage industry” with leading voices including Jancis Robinson adding to the debate around the issues and opportunities faced by women in the sector, marked the first event for Women of the Vine & Spirits in London

Last month, the organisation revealed it had joined forces with the WSET to improve the visibility of progression paths and opportunities for women in the industry.
