London’s first bulk wine show reflects growth of premium private label

Published:  23 February, 2018

IBWSS London opens its doors to the UK trade on 26 and 27 February against the backdrop of a market that has seen huge growth in bulk shipping and in-market bottling, along with the rise of premium private label.

With industry estimates suggesting a 60% rise in global shipments of bulk in the past decade (see our recent Bulking Up feature), shored up by a rise in both the technical ability to ensure the quality of bulk wine and a big growth in the economic and environmental imperatives of bottling close to market, the timing of the event is astute.

At IBWSS (International Bulk Wine & Spirits Show) a central theme of the varied presentations and seminars over the two days will be a focus on developing own and private label wines and spirits, along with unlocking the flexibility, exclusivity and margin potential that bulk can deliver.

Visitors are invited to hear from some of the biggest names in the industry, including Clem Yates, sourcing and supply director at Off-Piste Wines, who will walk through how to build a private label strategy, and media partner Harpers' editor Andrew Catchpole, who will lead a panel discussion on how retailers can build a profitable private label.

Other speakers include: Florian Ceschi, director at Ciatti Europe, who will present findings and data on the growth and opportunity of New World markets like Chile and South Africa; Lanchester Wines’s Mark Roberts on how to drive additional revenues by highlighting gaps in the branded wine and private label market; Broadland Wineries CEO Mark Lansley on how to optimise bulk wine business models to drive profitability; and Barry Dick MW, recently moved to head of winemaking at Copestick Murray, who will look at the best ways to import bulk wines from different countries

The new annual trade show and conference encompasses the spectrum of the bulk wine industry, from wineries looking to meet demand and importers looking to diversify their portfolio to retailers thinking about creating their own private labels, and brokers who are looking to meet new growers and producers.

Whether you are looking for insights on how to optimise an existing business model or how to create a new one from scratch, the event also offers opportunities to meet one to one with industry experts to speak about your businesses as well as learn about how to deal with things like regulatory issues and how to set up a corporate responsibility program.

The trade show component of the event will also give supermarkets, retailers, restaurants, wineries, distilleries and other buyers a platform to source bulk wine and spirits and meet private label suppliers.

For two days, visitors will have a chance to spend time on the trade show floor, meeting one-on-one with both buyers and sellers in the centre of London.

The International Bulk Wine & Spirits Show (IBWSS) in media partnership with Harpers is at London's Royal Horticultural Halls  on 26 and 27 February, 2018.
