The team raised money for the drinks industry charity of which Townsend was chairman in 2015 and 2016.

In August it was revealed that director of JF Hillebrand’s Porter and Laker business Chris Porter was to become the Benevolent’s new CEO.

He replaces current CEO David Cox and former European Director of New Zealand Winegrowers who joined the Benevolent as chief executive in 2013.

Cox is due to retire this year.
