Quality and value on the agenda as Vini d'Italia celebrates 30th anniversary in London

The annual guide which delves into the complex world of Italian wines is coming to London to celebrate its 30th birthday.

The annual guide which delves into the complex world of Italian wines is returning to London to celebrate its 30th birthday.

The Italian Chamber of Commerce is collaborating for a second time with Italian-made food and wine publisher Gambero Rosso in London, this time to celebrate the 2017 edition of their Vini d'Italia guide.

Gambero Rosso will be bringing 50 of the producers named in the guide as part of their Tre Bicchieri Tour to the capital on May 4, showcasing some of Italy's top wine cellars.

Vini d'Italia 2017 is the product of sixty experts working over the past year to sample 45,000 wines, reviewing 22,000 labels from over 2,400 wineries.

Nearly a quarter of the 429 Tre Bicchieri wines selected to appear in the guide's retail in Italy for less than 15 Euros, highlighting value for money as one of the most "crucial aspects of Italy's wine production", according to organisers.

"This great quality means that Italian wine now has an even bigger appeal in the international market and we are proud to be able to convey this by means of over 30 grand tastings, organised across the globe," they said.

This year, the 'Tre Bicchieri' wines were selected to appear in the guide using the traditional method of blind tastings, panel evaluations, and the 'Three Glass Rating' where wines are awarded from zero to three glasses based on quality.

To commemorate three decades of the guide, Gambero Rosso will be bringing the event to London to coincide with The Italian Chamber of Commerce's fifth annual tasting.

Two masterclasses are scheduled, with more information to follow in the coming weeks.

The event will be taking place on the May 4 at Church House Conference Centre, Westminster.
