Domaine de Rimauresq highlighted for innovation and difference' at Vinexpo.

Published:  18 January, 2007

Domaine de Rimauresq, Provence has been selected as one of Vinexpo 2005s discoveries' by an international team of journalists. The R' Rimauresq Ros 2004 was one of only ten wines chosen out of tens of thousands as the most innovative and different in the show, adding to a raft of awards and accolades collected by the estate.

The highly reputed Domaine de Rimauresq, is situated 140 m above sea level on the coast near Cuers, a short distance from the Naval town of Toulon, One of only 17 estates to hold the classification of Cru Class, the estate possesses 46 hectares of prime vineyards with an average vine-age of 40 years (the oldest block being planted in 1930).

Situated on the harsh mineral soils on the foothills of the Maures Massif, the wines are protected by the sheltering effects of the mountain from the intensity of the Mediterranean sun. The vineyards northerly exposition provides a longer ripening period enabling grapes to reach full phenolic ripeness and higher alcohol levels as a result of the longer hang time.

Grapes are harvested from late August for the white and ros, and until October for the reds. Replacement planting is now ensuring an increased vine density of up to 5,000 vines per hectare in an ongoing drive to improve quality.

A family-run estate, Domaine de Rimauresq is owned by the Wemyss family, who also owns one of Western Australia's rising stars, Fonty's Pool. Both estates are distributed in the UK by Boutinot Limited, with distribution through independent retail and the on-trade. Domaine de Rimauresq RRP 10.00 - 18.00; Fonty's Pool RRP 8.00 - 10.00
