Man reviews 366 drams in 366 days to build a mammoth beginner's guide to whisky

Published:  04 January, 2017

A North Yorkshire father-of-three is nearing the end of a year-long whisky-tasting marathon in order to educate whisky beginners and raise money for charity.

Whisky enthusiast Ben Bowers, has been helping beginners to crack the rich and complex world of whisky by reviewing "A dram a day" since January 25, 2016, Burn's Night.

Over the past year, Bowers has tasted and reviewed every operational Scotch whisky distillery via his YouTube channel.

Each video also provides a brief background history and anecdotes on each whisky, providing an informative guide to introduce newcomers to the vast array of options om the market.

Every evening Ben researches, films and uploads a 10-15 minute video guide of a distillery with the help of samples sent in by whisky fans, suppliers and distributors.

As well as Scotch he has reviewed releases from across the world from major markets such as America and Japan to craft distilleries in France and Australia.

In order to stay healthy, Bowers has been limiting himself to 25ml measures in order to stay under the government's current recommended alcohol intake of 14 units per week.

As well as providing a way into the category, he is also aiming to raise £5,000 for a charity to help those born with congenital heart defects.

With just a few weeks to go until the end of his challenge on January 24, Bowers said: "Juggling a daily review and video upload with the usual pressures of work and family hasn't always been easy, particularly with our third child arriving in October, but it's more than worth it for such a fantastic cause which helps so many young children and their families."
