Roots taps rum ambassador Burrell for Caribbean restaurant launch

Published:  12 November, 2015

Entrepreneur, chef and musician Levi Roots has partnered with global rum ambassador Ian Burrell for the launch of his first restaurant.

Levi Roots' Caribbean Smokehouse will open at London's Westfield Stratford City on December 8.

Burrell has been invited to curate the drinks menu to complement the restaurant's West Indian cuisine.

Roots won a £50,000 investment on BBC TV's Dragon's Den for his Reggae Reggae Sauce, which launched in 2006.

His company is now reportedly worth over £30 million.

Burrell is the founder of the Rum Experience and the UK RumFest.

Roots said: "I know Caribbean cuisine and Ian knows rum. How could we have an authentic Caribbean smokehouse without the two side by side?

"Ian is the best in the business but, more importantly, he shares my vision for an authentic experience with roots firmly in the Jamaican way of life.

"Ask any Jamaican. There's always a time of day that's rum time."

Burrell said: "Levi has been a huge inspiration for all entrepreneurs like myself where passion is the key ingredient and the recipe for success.

"Caribbean cuisine and rum cocktails are more than just food and drink in Jamaica. They're a way of life."

The Caribbean Smokehouse is in partnership with Eren Ali, co-founder of Las Iguanas.
