Bordeaux lines up dinner dates to showcase affordable wines

Published:  10 July, 2015

Bordeaux wines are getting a push in restaurants and independent wine merchants, backed by the region's governing body.

The Bordeaux Wine Council is inviting businesses from the two trade sectors to link up to host Bordeaux wine dinners in its annual Dine With Bordeaux programme.

It hopes that 100 dinners will be held across the UK this year, attended by 5,000 diners.

In a separate piece of activity, independent wine merchants are being encouraged to run in-store tastings. A Taste of Bordeaux will run in 60 shops.

Both pieces of activity are designed to show a diverse range of Bordeaux wines within an affordable price of range of £6-25 retail.

Participating businesses will receive a merchandising pack to support their activity.

Wine merchants will also receive up to £350 for taking part in a dinner and £150 for hosting in-store as a contribution to the cost wines.

Douglas Morton, UK consultant for the CIVB, said: "These activities are designed to encourage wine merchants and restaurants to give their customers a further insight into the wines of Bordeaux, whether that is a dinner at a local restaurant with wine matches, or a taste before they buy.

"Our aim is to encourage more people to enjoy the easy-drinking, everyday wines from the region."

Registration for both activities is open until September 30 and there are more details at discoverbordeaux.com.
