Oddbins 'legend' Daniel makes latest craft beer for retailer's range

Published:  02 July, 2015

Oddbins' adventures into craft beer are continuing with the launch of No 5 Saison.

The beer is based on a Belgian summer beer style and has been made with Abbey beer yeast, with mandarin zest and passionfruit pulp added during the brewing process.

tIt was made by Rocky Head, the south London brewer set up by Steve Daniel, former Oddbins buyer and now the buying director at Hallgaerten Druit's Novum Wines.

Sarah Hamilton, Oddbins' local beer buyer, said: "Working with someone like Steve who has such a rich tapestry of knowledge and ideas was the perfect choice and I'm elated with the result."

Oddbins claims local craft beer sales have risen 61% in its stores over the past year, a trend which inspired it to open its first dedicated beer shop, at Blackheath in south London, in March.

Managing director Ayo Akintola said: "No 5 is a really special one for Oddbins because this is collaboration with Oddbins' legend Steve Daniel and if ever there was a drink that embodies our past while encapsulating our present and future, then No 5 is it."

The beer will be in-store from tomorrow at £2.80 a bottle, with free tastings over the weekend.
