On-trade wine importer Flint Wines is boosting its Italian wine range after adding Italian importer HS Fine Wines to its portfolio.

The London-based wine supplier, which specialises in Burgundy and Californian wines, will add more than 85 wines from 15 different Italian producers to its range as it seeks to target new customers in the on-trade.

"It is great news for us as it opens up the Italian market," Flint wines said, " and builds on the success we have had with the Cogno wines of Piedmont.

"The fit is a logical and productive one. Flint will obviously be able to bring greater market exposure to all these wines, thanks to a strong restaurant and merchant client base."

The new wines include a 2010 Chianti Classico San Marcellino from Rocca di Montegrossi, which will be at the London Wine Fair. Producers include Peter Pliger, from Mara, Bressanone; Cantina Produttori Di Bolzano, Bolzano, and Rocca di Montegrossi from Monti-In-Chianti, Gaiole From Tuscany.

HS Wines owner Hector Scicluna will move to the Flint Wine offices to become a consultant, with the intention of retiring from the business in the medium term, leving Flint Wines to develop the relationship with the Italian producers.

Flint's on-trade director Gearoid Devaney MS said: "The opportunity to work with estates such as Montegrossi and Gorelli, that I have bought myself over many years, was too good to miss. They are high quality and authentic and are just the sort of wines sommeliers will get excited about."
