C&C Group amalgamates wine arm into restructured UK business

Published:  09 April, 2015

C&C Group has amalgamated its wine trading business, International Wine Services with two of its UK cider businesses to form C&C Brands Limited.

The streamlined business will see Glasgow-based IWS, Magners GB and Shepton Mallet Cider Mill integrated into one UK structure which the company said will make it more sustainable.

Announcing the changes, Andrea Pozzi, the managing director of the new division said it was a logical step to create a single team to promoting all of its brands to a broadly common customer base.

"We can also benefit from a more efficient operational structure, principally by amalgamating sales and marketing personnel," he said, adding that there were "exciting developments to come in 2015" which it would be better placed to promote under the new structure.

"The move will create a platform for long-term sustainable growth, and bring simplicity and clarity to its operations as well as to its customers," he said.

Harpers understands IWS's commercial director Shaun Good left the business on Friday 3 April.

In its interim management statement released in January, the company said trading conditions in the 3rd quarter were below expectations, with net revenue in England and Wales down 18.2% and cider volumes down 9.8%. In the 9 months to 30 November, net revenue fell 16.9%, on volumes down 9.5%m.

International Wine Services was launched by C&C Group in August 2013 to market its wine and spirits brands into the on-trade, including Olivers and Greg's, Odessa vodka and Squire's London Dry gin into the on-trade.
