Nobu biggest loser as Michelin strips 14 restaurants of their stars

Published:  25 September, 2014

The Michelin Guide has decided not to give any new two or three stars in today's announcement of its 2014/2015 awards, and has stripped stars from 14 restaurants including Nobu and Nobu Berkeley Street.

The announcement is a serious blow to Nobu that has held its Michelin star for 16 years and eight years at Berkeley Street.

Other big names to lose their Michelin star status include The Medlar, Chapter One, which has lost it for a second time, Holbeck Ghyll in Windermere, which was featured in the BBC's The Trip, Inverlochy Castle in Fort William and Glenapp Castle in Ballantrae.

There was better news for a raft of restaurants that have all been awarded a Michelin star for the first time. In London they include good news for Eddie and Sam Hart with the first Michelin star for Barrafina. Other stars in the capital include Kitchen Table at Bubbledogs, Gymkhana, Jason Atherton's City Social, Simon Rogan's Fera at Claridge's and the Clove Club.

The Scottish Islands have two new stars with Isle of Eriska in Eriska, and Three Chimneys & The House Over-By on the Isle of Skye. Wales has two more stars at Ynyshir Hall in Machynlleth and the Crown at Whitebrook in Monmouth. Nathan Outlaw's Outlaw's Fish Kitchen has also won a star in Cornwall.

This year's guide also includes three more pubs with Michelin stars which including The Treby Arms, owned by a former winner of MasterChef.

There are 26 new Bib Gourmands announced which recognise establishments offering good food at affordable prices (the limit being £28 for three courses). These include Ibérico World Tapas in Derby, 64? in Brighton and Palomar in Soho and The Gannet and Ox and Finch in Glasgow.
