Chile's Santa Carolina switches from Percy Fox to Ehrmanns

Published:  19 August, 2014

Chilean wine brand Santa Carolina has ditched Diageo-owned distributor Percy Fox in favour of Ehrmanns in order to boost UK sales across all channels.

The Chilean winery, which has been distributed by Percy Fox since 2001, is looking to improve long-term growth with the move.

Santa Carolina is Chile's third largest exporter of Chilean premium wine. The estate was founded in 1875 and is now owned by the Larrain family.

Santa Carolina's commercial director, Christian Wylie, said: "We are looking forward to joining forces with Ehrmanns and have been impressed by their understanding of this highly competitive but nonetheless, key market for us. Santa Carolina's legacy as one of Chile's oldest wineries, together with the newly rebuilt Santiago city winery and an ever-strong winemaking team, make us the perfect contender to challenge those brands that are currently dominating the UK market"

Mark Chapman, Ehrmanns chief executive, said: "We are delighted to announce this partnership and believe Santa Carolina fits perfectly in our strong South American portfolio. We are highly impressed with Santa Carolina heritage, quality of the wines and their quest to recover long-lost varietals. We can only see Santa Carolina as a Chilean wine brand to be reckoned with and together we will work towards attaining the recognition it deserves in the UK."

Ehrmanns will distribute the entire Santa Carolina portfolio, which includes the estate's Estrellas, Specialties, Reserva, Gran Reserva and the Reserva de Familia ranges, as well as icon wines from their Cachapoal's vineyards, VSC and Herencia.

The new arrangements will start next month, coinciding with the Beautiful South Tasting in London, where winemaker Andres Caballero will be showing a selection of Santa Carolina wines.
