William Grant & Sons invests in new global whisky innovation role

Published:  13 August, 2014

William Grant & Sons has promoted Kevin Abrook to become the company's first global whisky specialist for innovation and will start his new role on September 1.

Abrook, who is William Grant & Sons' current global marketing manager for whisky innovation, has over 20 years experience in the drinks industry. During his time at William Grant he has helped develop and launch Kininvie Single Malt, the first house release from the distillery since 1990 and The Girvan Patent Still Single Grain Scotch Whisky.

William Grant will hope Abrook's appointment will help it continue the impressive growth of its whisky portfolio, particularly in the UK. In its annual report released last month, William Grant & Sons reported malt whisky grew 22% by value in the on-trade and 6% in the off-trade in the last year.

Abrook said of his new role: "I am delighted to have been appointed as the first ever global whisky specialist for innovation.  William Grant & Sons started making fine whisky over 126 years ago, and the fact that we are still making new whiskies today is a testament to our entrepreneurial spirit and distilling expertise. In my new role I will continue this legacy by working to excite, inform and educate people about William Grant & Sons' latest whisky innovations."

Damien Heary,  the company's director of global planning and  innovation, added: "Kevin brings to this new role not only his extensive knowledge of developing and launching whiskies but also his passion for whisky and spirits gained over 20 years working in the industry."
