Published:  30 May, 2014

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge re-opened Scotland's oldest distillery Glenturret yesterday following a closure that allowed for a £250,000 investment to be made to develop a visitor's centre called The Famous Grouse Experience.

The Famous Grouse has been the best-selling whisky in Scotland since 1980. The Earl and Countess of Strathearn, as they are known in Scotland, took a tour of the five-start newly renovated and completed attraction centre. They participated in a tasting as well as were the first people to complete the "bottle your own" Glenturret whisky, which is available to do at the new site.

This was the first official engagement that the royal couple has participated in since their return from the tour of Australia they completed last month.

"It was an absolute pleasure to welcome The Earl and Countess of Strathearn to The Famous Grouse Experience. With such strong links to this area through their Scottish titles, we couldn't think of anyone more perfectly placed to open our new-look visitor areas." said Stuart Cassells, general manager at The Famous Grouse Experience.
