Those attending the first Wine Buyers Forum taking place in Windsor next month will be able to take part in a wide ranging series of trade workshops as well as organise meetings with key suppliers over the two day event.

The Wine Buyers forum is a new concept for the UK wine trade but has proved popular in other hospitality sectors. Organised by Harpers publishers, William Reed Business Media, it allows buyers to hold trading discussions through a series of half hour meetings with both existing and new wine suppliers.

Over 100 buyers from all channels of the industry have signed up to attend including those from restaurants, pub and hotel groups, Michelin star restaurants and leading independent wine merchants and wholesalers. They will be able to make meetings with over 30 suppliers from all the world looking to gain further distribution in the UK.

The programme will also include a number of trade workshops giving buyers the opportunity to hear first hand from leading trade experts who will be looking at different aspects of buying, selling, negotiating, ranging and managing wine in different channels. Confirmed workshop hosts to date include:  with further names and worhsops to be announced early next week

  • Jerry Lockspeiser, wine consultant and chairman of Off Piste Wines, will look at how to be a great salesman.
  • Raul Diaz, training manager at Jascots Wine Merchants will look at how to narrow the link between buyers and sellers. In particular how you can learn more about wine in a relevant and practical way that allows staff to sell wine more and better quality wine, feel more confident with their performance and deliver a "wine experience" for their customers.
  • Mark Newton of on-trade analysts, CGA will give an in-depth overview of the key trends in the on-trade, which sectors are performing the best, what wine styles are most in demand, at what price points and will also examine the opportunities for wines by the glass, carafe and other formats.
  • Justin-Howard Sneyd, wine consultant for Direct Wines, former head of BWS at Waitrose and now wine producer in his own right, will share his experiences of working on both sides of the buyer/seller relationship and how best to get the most out of each party.

Further names and worshop themes will be revealed early next week. If you are a buyer or supplier looking to attend Windsor 2014 there is still time to sign up by contacting Mark Jones, mark.jones@wrbm.com or David Jenkins, david.jenkins@wrbm.com
