The organisers of a new consumer wine fair in Oxford, which will take place over the August Bank Holiday, expect to attract more than 3,000 people.

The two-day event is scheduled for August 23 and 24 at the Oxford union buildings and will show wines from over 20 countries, with a special focus on English wine production.

It will also looks at Old and New World wines and emerging regions - the Georgian Wine Society is a sponsor. The festival will have tutored tastings as well as food and live music.

Chris Bowling, one of Oxford Wine Festival's founders, said: "We are creating a really ambitious event that will draw in people from both the city and from around the world. We want an event that reflects the host city - intelligent, fun, atmospheric, and renowned."

"This will be an opportunity to meet new people, discover new wines, and enjoy this world famous location with a glass of wine in your hand. It is a chance for both tourists and locals to sample everything that is delicious and fascinating in today's world of wine."

Attendees can select from four different sessions over the weekend, and tickets are priced £19.50, with a discounted rate of £14.50 for the first 100 sold. The ticket price includes the first five wine samples.
