Wines of South Africa starts recruitment drive for new chief

Published:  22 July, 2013

Wines of South Africa is formally advertising for a new chief executive to replace Su Birch (pictured) who stands down following the Beautiful South tasting in September.

The role, which is being advertised here on harpers.co.uk, will be a hard one to fill following Birch's 13 years in the position. But whoever takes over will be responsible for leading a generic body that represents an industry that contributes over R7 billion in foreign exchange earnings, accounts for some 2.5% of GDP and employs over 270 000 people.

From the advert for the role it is clear WOSA is looking for an "an astute, highly experienced marketer" with "experience in advertising and promotions" whose "pulse" is on "new marketing avenues (including social media)". It continues: "Knowledge of micro- and macro economic information, financial and business management, market data and trends, as well as BEE and transformation is essential".

Candidates will be expected to have a relevant newbusiness or marketing degree. The closing date for job applications is August 2. new
