Independents flock to Manchester, London and Singapore SITT tastings

Published:  28 February, 2013

Large numbers of independent on and off-trade buyers attended this week's SITT tastings in Manchester, London and Singapore.

The three events attracted independent wine merchants, restaurateurs, sommeliers and bar owners and gave them the opportunity to meet and taste wines exclusively aimed at the independent sector from specialist producers and suppliers.

The Singapore event on February 25 was the first time SITT was held a tasting outside the UK and gave local independent operators the chance to meet suppliers from around the world keen to get a foothold in the key Asian markets.

The Manchester event on Monday saw an increase of 14% in visitor numbers, who also had the chance to check out the new Point facility at the Old Trafford Cricket Ground.

The SITT London tasting was held at Lindley Hall at the Royal Horticultural Halls.

This year's tastings also attracted a wider range of producers with representatives from all the major Old and New World countries, including emerging regions such as Croatia and Brazil.

Ruth Yates of north west chain of independent merchants, Corks Out, said: "I thought the tasting was one of the best, a much better venue, all on one level and free parking. I loved that suppliers were showing something different from their portfolio and also that there was so much diversity on the floor, such as wines from Brazil, Croatia and Switzerland. It makes our range review so much easier. I equally loved the RSP pricing band, too, which helped to focus on needs under a time restraint."

The event also attracted a lot of Twitter reaction. Here are some of the comments:

Looking over notes for yesterday's SITT event in Royal Horticultural Halls. What a tasting. Beautiful wines. Glorious Brezza dolcetto.
