Last chance for wineries to get UK listings with Winestars

Published:  11 May, 2012

Wine producers looking for distribution in the UK have until Sunday to enter a competition and stand the chance of gaining national or regional listings in multiple and independent outlets.

The Winestars initiative, set up by Catherine Monahan, managing director of Clink! Wines, gives wineries the chance to compete in a competition that will be played out at this month's London International Wine Fair.

From 100 wineries chosen from all around the world, a shortlist of 10 will be invited to pitch live to a judging panel of interested on and off-trade buyers at the LIWF on the afternoon of May 24.

The participating companies in the project include Waitrose, Laithwaites/Direct Wines, Mitchells & Butlers, Swig.co.uk and Hangingditch.

The judges lined up to choose the wines that will be chosen for distribution include Justin Howard-Sneyd MW, Direct Wines; Andrew Shaw, Waitrose; Ben Stephenson, Hangingditch; Joan Torrents, Mitchells & Butlers; wine consultant and critic Robert Joseph;  design specialist Kevin Shaw, Stranger & Stranger; and Catherine Monahan.

The remaining 90 wineries will be included on the Winestars website, wine-stars.com, as part of an online auction for other wine agents or distributors to link up with.
