Nomacorc holds first marketing symposium

Published:  18 April, 2011

Nomacorc's held its first-ever wine marketing symposium to discuss new and authentic approaches to capture and keep the attention of the growing segment of millennial wine drinkers.

The event held in Napa Valley drew a crowd of close to 400 marketing professionals, industry leaders, media representatives and students.

Keynote speaker Gary Vaynerchuk, author of The Thank You Economy and host of Wine Library TV, challenged listeners to view social media as more than just a tactic and emphasized that the idea of using social networks for a "campaign" is comparable to a one-night stand.

Vaynerchuk said wine brands had become lazy. "It is time for every single person in this room, no matter what your brand is, to take full control of your brand and engage directly with the consumer."

"You must create a relationship with the people who buy your juice."

Dr. Stéphane Vidal, global director of enology for Nomacorc and Vaynerchuk also discussed how oxygen management can affect winemaking.

Jeff Slater, global director of marketing for Nomacorc, said: "We received a lot of questions about why a closure company was hosting an event about wine marketing.

"Nomacorc supports innovation and education across all facets of the wine industry. Whenever we can better understand the challenges our customers face, the better equipped we are to innovate and perform as a true industry partner."
