Six out of ten people will visit a pub, bar or restaurant for this year's office Christmas party, and half of the revellers will be newcomers to the venue.

A survey of 2,700 UK consumers by Retail Eyes, showed 48% of party-goers will have not visited the venue before.

Simon Boydell, marketing manager for Retail Eyes, said: "There is a fantastic opportunity for publicans, landlords and venue managers to make a real impression on party-goers. If they play their cards right, they will sell the benefits of their venue to an eager audience and encourage repeat visits. Christmas is the ideal opportunity to impress potential customers as they enjoy the party season."

The survey also found that 17% of respondents will leave Christmas shopping until the last week before Christmas.

Boydell added: "With frustrations growing as the masses hit the shops (87% find crowds and long queues the most frustrating aspects of Christmas shopping), venues can offer a calming oasis from the high street. For 68% of people, the festive spirit is the most enjoyable aspect of Christmas shopping - and publicans and landlords are well placed to provide this much needed respite."
