C&C Group becomes member of Portman Group.

Manufacturer, marketer and distributor, C&C Group, has become a member of the Portman Group.

The C&C Group, focuses on branded long alcoholic beverages in Ireland and the UK, will formally be subject to the Portman Group's Code of Practice on the naming, packaging and promotion of alcoholic Drinks.

Its brands include: Magners cider, Gaymers cider, Blackthorn cider and Tennent's lager.

Gordon Johncox, managing director of Magners GB Ltd, a division of C&C Group, said: "As a leading manufacturer of alcoholic drinks it is important to ensure that we are responsible in everything we do and show leadership on best practice in the area of alcohol social responsibility.

"Responsible drinking is a key objective for the drinks trade and we recognise that more still needs to be done to educate consumers. By becoming members of the Portman Group we can collectively continue to drive awareness of these issues and have valuable input when it comes to framing alcohol policy."

The next Portman Group council meeting is on the December 7.
