2010 Port Bursary launches tomorrow

Published:  25 October, 2010

The 2010 Port Bursary, which funds a trip to the Douro for either a sommelier of on-trade buyer, will be launched by Mentzendorff in London tomorrow.

The travel scholarship was founded twenty ago by the late Bruce Guimaraens (Fonseca Port), and will be launched tomorrow at the RAC at a tutored Port tasting between 4pm and 6pm.

Chris Forbes of The Fladgate Partnership, sponsors of the bursary, will talk about the production and service of Port within a restaurant environment.

Six people could win an all expenses trip to Portugal to visit Taylor's, Croft and Fonseca Ports in the Douro Valley in September 2011 if they fill in a questionnaire to be handed out after the tasting.

The bursary is awarded every two years. Winners of the 2008 Port Bursary were Eric Lagre (East India Club), Anja Breit (Maze), Katarzyna Andrysczak (Buck's) and Thomas Jaworski (City of London Club).
