Leading winemakers join the line-up at Harpers Global Wine Conference

Leading winemakers from Australia and Chile will take part in an industry question and answer session at this week's Global Wine Conference being held by Harpers Wine & Spirit.

Adolfo Hurtado, from Chilean producer Cono Sur, Phil Ryan from Australian producer, McWilliams and Felipo Tosso at Vina Ventisquero will share their views on the challenges facing global winemakers at the conference to be held at London's Hilton Park Lane on September 7.


They will all take part in a morning Q&A discussion panel alongside Lulie Halstead, chief executive of Wine Intelligence and an insight to the finance markets and the importance of currency markets on the wine industry with Nick Ryder Smart Currency Exchange.

The conference will examine the trading conditions facing the global wine industry, with particular emphasis on the structure of the industry and how wine producers, distributors and retailers need to adapt to appeal to a changing consumer.

The day will include talks from leading UK retailers including Justin James head of BWS at Sainsbury's and Dan Jago, Tesco's director for drinks. Angela Mount head of the Peter Jones-backed Gondola Wines will look at the opportunities in online and the ability of the internet to open up the wine industry to more consumers.

Simon Thomas of Pernod Ricard will examine the challenges facing global drinks companies and how it is adapting its wines, and styles of wine to keep it competitive.

Tim Wilson of the Wilson Drinks Report will put the wine average wine drinker in context with other drinks categories with exclusive research to be released at the conference.

There will also be presentations on consumers trends now and in the future with Judith Kleine Holthaus
account director, FMCG and automotive at the Future Foundation and a look at how consumers are using the internet to buy and research products with Will Critchlow of Distilled.
