Enotria has bought Bath-based firm Great Western Wines (GWW) for an undisclosed sum.

The UK agent has bought Bath-based firm Great Western Wines (GWW) for an undisclosed sum.

Enotria has pledged to keep all GWW staff, as well as the Bath shop, as part of the sale.

GWW's managing director Philip Addis, who founded the firm 27 years ago, will join the Enotria board as regional sales director.

Addis said: "Philosophically, Enotria are surprisingly similar to us and together I believe we will be able to assemble the very finest and most interesting range of wines available in the UK."

Alison Levett, Enotria's chief executive, added: "Like Enotria, GWW has been founded on a passion for wine, a portfolio of fabulous family wine estates and a total commitment to service, so I am extremely confident that we will have an exciting time working together over the coming years. Of course our first concern for both staff and customers is to ensure a smooth transition and a warm welcome from Enotria."
