A rosé future for rosado

Exports of rosados from Navarra to the UK rose by over 30% to the end of October 2009, due to increased promotional activity says the Consejo Regulador Navarra.

Exports of rosados from Navarra to the UK rose by 30.08% to the end of October 2009, due to increased promotional activity says the Consejo Regulador Navarra.

Over the past 3 years it has been working in conjunction with the wineries in the region to improve the quality of its rosado wines. Measures have been undertaken to increase the number of quality controls during the winemaking process and to reduce its minimum yields.

Pilar García Granero, president of the CRDO Navarra said "Navarra has the reputation for making the best rosados in Spain and we are determined to ensure that every bottle produced in the region is made to the highest possible quality standards. We feel that the uplift in sales to the UK market is a reflection of this."

A bespoke tasting of the new vintage rosados is to be held next month in central London, and in May Navarra will host a seminar on the future of rosé in the UK market at the London International Wine Fair.
