Top 100 restaurants named

The UK's top 100 restaurants have been named as part of the National Restaurant Awards run by Harpers Wine & Spirit's sister title, Restaurant Magazine.

The UK's top 100 restaurants have been named as part of the National Restaurant Awards run by Harpers Wine & Spirit's sister title, Restaurant Magazine.

The event, now into its second  year, saw the restaurant secctor's finest gather at London's Hurlingham Club to see Heston Bummenthal's The Fat Duck restaurant named overall best restaurant of the year. It pipped London's Hibiscus into second place with Abergavenny's The Walnut Tree, third.

The top 10 of the full top 100 list are:

2 Hibiscus, London

3 The Walnut Tree, Abergavenny, Monmouthshire

4 Restaurant Sat Bains, Nottingham

5 Corrigan's Mayfair, London

6 The Vineyard at Stockcross, Newbury, Berkshire

7 Chez Bruce, Wandsworth Common, London

8 The Kitchin, Leith, Edinburgh

9 Arbutus, London

10 St John, London

Other awards handed out on the night included Sat Bains, whose restaurant was the only one to receive five AA rosettes this year, won the Chef's Chef award while the Front of House Award went to Raymond Blanc's Le Manoir aux Quat' Saisons. L'Anima won the Readers' Choice award and Alain Ducasse at the Dorchester, was voted the Restaurateurs' Choice.

Ferran Adria, of the World's Best Restaurant for the past four years - El Bulli - was at the event and handed the Restaurant of the Year trophy to Palmer-Watts, who will be in charge of Heston Blumenthal's London restaurant at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel when it opens next year.
