UK independent specialist drinks retailer First Quench Retailing has announced the resignation of chief executive officer Yvonne Rankin due to ill health.

Rankin joined the firm in 2007 and is understood to have been on long-term sick leave.

In a statement the First Quench board thanked Rankin for: "the valuable contribution she made to the business in her time as CEO" and extended her best wishes for the future.

Chief financial officer Martin Healy has been deputising and will continue in the role of acting chief executive, the statement added.
