Teddy Davis, employee of Champagne Taittinger with Hatch Mansfield has died peacefully in his sleep, aged 85.

Throughout his long career in the drinks trade he was associated with several Champagne houses supplying all the prestigious British race courses, he had been with Hatch Manfield for the past eleven years.

Davis was with Piper Heidsieck during the company's sponsorship of the Cheltenham Gold Cup, and had also worked for Ruinart and Taittinger.

Patrick McGrath, Hatch Manfield managing director said: "All of the Hatch Mansfield team are deeply sad to hear of Teddy's death as he has been part of our lives for so long.

"Teddy's two big loves were Champagne and horse racing and for the last eleven years he did a sensational job selling Taittinger to the race courses.

"His passion never failed and despite increasing ill health he continued to work as hard and enthusiastically as ever.

"However more than anything else he was a real friend to us all and he will be deeply missed."

The funeral will be private, but a memorial service will be held later in the year."
