Stirrings thickens up Diageo portfolio

Published:  16 June, 2009

Diageo has bought out the US cocktail mixer producer Stirrings. The UK company acquired a 20% stake in Stirrings two years ago.

As part of the deal Diageo will take over the marketing of Stirrings brands and they will join the Diageo distributor network across the whole US.

Steve Rust, senior vice president of Diageo's Reserve Brands, will oversee Stirrings products for Diageo.

Bob Swartz will remain as Stirrings ceo overseeing commercial matters and liquid development.

Larry Schwartz, president of Diageo USA, said: "This is a great opportunity to further grow the brand and create more synergies with Diageo's array of leading spirits brands.

"As people entertain more at home, they are looking for an easy way to serve bar-quality cocktails and Stirrings fits squarely within our at-home strategy."

Stirrings founders Gil Maclean and Bill Creelman will stay on as consultants.
