Amber Taverns buy up twenty-three Cains pubs

Published:  21 April, 2009

Amber Taverns the Blackpool based company have bought twenty-three former Cains pubs.

The purchase was made from the administrators after Cains Beer Company went into administration last August.

Amber Taverns bought the freehold pubs for an undisclosed sum and will add to the 30 pubs it already operates throughout the north west.

Amber Taverns Chairman Clive Preston said: "This is a significant and tremendously exciting development, as it almost doubles the size of its portfolio across the region.

"We're planning to roll out an extensive re-furbishment programme over the coming months."

Cains operated 102 pubs, but fell into financial difficulty after it acquired Honeycombe Leisure in 2007.

Problems arose over an unpaid tax bill and a rescue plan was thrashed out with the Royal Bank of Scotland, but the bank refused to accept their proposal and the company went into administration in August 2008.
