BESSIERE SET TO CELEBRATE FOLLOWING FIRE ATTACK

Published:  23 July, 2008

Languedoc-Roussillon specialist Bessire is set to open a new state-of-the-art computerised bottling line', following the fire which destroyed part of its premises in January (Harpers, 8 February). Members of the Comit d'Action Viticole (CAV) broke into the bottling hall and emptied vats containing 1,500 hectolitres of wine, before setting fire to boxes and wooden pallets. Managing director Daniel Bessire reportedly said that he has never imported any wine and has an excellent relationship with growers in the region. The re-opening, on 14 September, coincides with the company's centenary celebrations. The bottling line will have a capacity of 12,000 bottles an hour and the whole process of bottling to packing will be automated. Bessire has introduced a range of value-for-money Vins de Pays d'Oc wines called Domaine de Brignac, to add to its Signature Daniel Bessire and Terra Negra ranges. The range comprises 2001 Cabernet, Merlot, Syrah, Grenache Gris, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc.
