RIEDEL CONSULTS ON FIRST PINOTAGE GLASS

Published:  23 July, 2008

The respected South African wine writer, Michael Fridjhon, is working with specialist wine glass maker Georg Riedel to design a glass to show off the attributes of the country's controversial signature grape variety, Pinotage. Fridjhon told Harpers: We held a preliminary tasting using existing glasses, and after eliminating the inappropriate ones we settled on two possibilities - the Shiraz glass from the Wine Series range and the Vinum range's Pinot Noir glass. This reflects the parentage of Pinotage - Pinot Noir and the Rhne variety Cinsaut. The next stage is to hold a series of tastings mid-year. If these tastings go well we hope to have the glass by the end of the year,' added Fridjhon.
