This Week: The world's largest wine bottle is sold, Danny Boy is banned from Irish pubs and a Frenchman with a penchant for Pernod

Published:  18 January, 2007

Lots to talk about this week in Harpers' YouTube and quirkies round-up

Interesting set of videos to dissect with the world's largest wine bottle setting the pace early on for the selection. This bottle of Australian Shiraz contains a whopping 290 litres and dwarves its portly owner in height.

There's a flashing wine glass here with all sorts of garish colours to aid you in finding your drink during a powercut.

What Else? It may well be March - which means everyman and his dog pretends to be Irish for St. Patrick's Day - but one pub has ensured there will be no drunken renditions of Danny Boy by banning it.

There's also another example of the recent stream of wine related computer gadgets.

And finally

A classic Pernod advert from 1975 here. See how the archetypal French chappie skips and sings his way to his favourite drink. All that is missing is a baguette and a stripey top.
