Aussie wine exports fall

Published:  23 July, 2008

Australian wine exports have fallen 5% in volume but bottled shipments are on the rise.

In the year ended February 2008 volumes fell to 749 million litres although value only declined 0.1%.

Bulk wine shipments dropped by 57m litres with the US market accounting for 70% of this fall. However bottled exports incresed by 28m litres offsetting some of the decline.

The UK remains its number one export market by volume and value.

Harvest is now taking place in many parts of Australia and the vintage is expected to yield around 1.6m tonnes - more than originally anticipated and an improvement on 2007's 1.4m tonne harvest.
