Record Rioja sales in 2007
There were record sales of Rioja in 2007, new figures show.
Data from QDO Rioja has shown a total of 271.6 million litres were sold last year - a 3.75% (10m litre) increase on the previous year.
Exports continued to be a particularly strong area over the last 12 months. They were up by 7% while vintage wines from the region now represent 60% of total sales.
The UK was the largest importer of Riojan wines in 2007 - sales were up by 13.7% exceeding 31.6m litres.
This equates to three times the 2000 sales figures and means the UK accounts for 37.5% of total exports from the region.
