Drinkaware launches targeted under 18s website

Published:  23 July, 2008

A new website targeted at reducing alcohol-related harm in teenagers was launched earlier today by The Drink Aware Trust (December 12).

Jean Collingwood, Drinkaware chief executive, said the under 18s website, Truthaboutbooze.com, is aiming to give youngsters their first say in conveying the anti-drink message.

She added: "Our research shows that youngsters believe the anti-drink message is being diluted by the official approach and patronising slogans.

"What they want is real information and facts on the effects of drinking, but without being patronised.

"This is the first time that young people have been asked directly what methods would help them and their friends from falling into the trap of drinking and one we hope will stay on everyone's agenda."

The website's approach draws heavily upon the social networking and blog phenomena associated with successful youth websites such as Bebo, Facebook, MySpace and YouTube.

Case studies, educational videos and discussion forums on alcohol-related topics will all be available online, Collingwood added.

The Truthaboutbooze.com website aims to follow on the success of the Drinkaware.co.uk website, which launched in January 2007 and has reached over 3 million Brits.
