Yalumba wins green award

Published:  23 July, 2008

Barossa winery Yalumba was awarded the International Green Apple Award for Environmental Best Practice (Australia and New Zealand) from the House of Commons.

The Green Apple adds to the list of accolades Yalumba has received for its commitment to sustainable winemaking programme. The programme takes a whole-business approach to environmental concerns, from grape-growing through to packaging and distribution.

Robert Hill Smith, proprietor and managing director of Yalumba, said: "We have created an environmental programme that leaves nothing to chance when it comes to protecting the essential elements that make up wine - air, water, soil and energy. By sharing our handcrafted wines with the world, we are also sharing the responsibility for protecting the future."

The Green Apple Awards were created by the Green Organisation, a non-profit group, to recognise and reward best environmental practice worldwide.
