Published:  23 July, 2008

INDIA: United Spirits to launch a range of Whyte & Mackay (W&M) brands in India in November.

UB Group (which owns United Spirits) said brands like Dalmore Single Highland Malt Fettercairn, Glayva and Isle of Jura single malt whisky and Vladivar vodka should be available to distributors around the country in time for the Hindu celebration of lights, Diwali.

The brands will also be sold in markets such as China, South Korea and Spain.

United Spirits said it will introduce exclusive distributor wholesaler arrangements soon.

The company also said it will strengthen its focus on its wine business and in September plans to launch two brands, Zini and Bouvet Ladubay.

The Four Seasons brand would be launched in October next year, group chairman Vijay Mallya said, adding that the company's proposed winery in Baramati would also be commissioned around that time.

The wine market in India is now 500,000 cases a year and is growing at 50% per annum.

Meanwhile W&M may be listed on the London Stock Exchange in a bid to raise capital to pay off existing debts. UB Group acquired the whisky firm in May this year.
