United Wineries invests in Rueda

United Wineries has bought Vega de la Reina winery in the wine region of Rueda in a bid to strengthen is premium white wine offer.

The winery features an underground cellar with the capacity of 1000 barrels.

It has 100 hectares of estate owned vineyards planted to Verdejo, Viura, Sauvignon Blanc, Tempranillo, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon.

The vineyards planted at an average altitude of 740 metres are located on alluvial soils in Valdestillas, on the banks of the Douro and Adaja rivers.

United Wineries managing director Xavier Batlle said: "We are extremely pleased to have secured a presence in Rueda as there is real opportunity for Spain to develop its production of high quality, varietally led white wine.

"Vega de la Reina, with its established plantings of indigenous and international varieties, will enable us to increase the diversity and quality of our white wine offer."

United Wineries brands include Berberana, Marqus de la Concordia, Durius, Marqus de Grin Lagunilla and Marqus de Monistrol.
