South Africa to take wines outdoors

Published:  23 July, 2008

South Africa is stepping up its consumer campaign in a bid to reposition the country's wines.

WSA is sponsoring a number of outdoor theatre performances where it will showcase samples of a range of wines as well as talking directly to consumers about bio-diversity.

It will also work with "major UK retailers" to promote the wines at the point of sale.

Jo Mason, UK market manager, said: "The positioning for South African wines is starting to take hold in the UK trade and our job now is to ensure the end consumer has a clear understanding of what makes our wines special.

"The campaign is based on fact and the conservation story is strong."

The campaign was launched at the London International Wine and Spirit Fair (LIWSF), by conservationist, Saba Douglas Hamilton, and wine guru Olly Smith.
