All change for supermarket buying teams

Published:  23 July, 2008

Sainsbury's has appointed a new buyer to cover North America and Germany, while Somerfield has restructured its beer, wine and spirits team.

Rachael Icke joins the Sainsbury's team from Constellation, where she was a senior national account manager, and in total she has worked in the wine trade for eight years. Her responsibilities will include wine boxes and small-size bottles.

She said: I am thrilled to be part of such a great, award-winning team, and am excited about the opportunity of working here at Sainbury's.'

Over at Somerfield, Claire Pell is now the buyer for light wines, having been responsible in the past for fortified wines, beer and cider. Joining Pell will be Julie McFadden, who has been promoted to junior buyer for light wines. Gerald Aldridge will continue in his current role as spirits and fortified wine buyer.

A new arrival to the Somerfield team is Tim Horton, who has joined as buyer for beer and cider, having previously worked for Hallmark cards and Swedish furniture giant Ikea.
