NZ winery forced to change name

Published:  23 July, 2008

A US producer specialising in kosher wine has forced a boutique winery in Marlborough, New Zealand, to change its name.

Herzog Winery, run by husband-and-wife team Hans and Therese Herzog, will now label its wines as Hans', after US producer Baron Herzog, which is owned by the Royal Wine Corporation, registered its name globally.

Therese Herzog said: We have very loyal customers and they know us and our wines intimately, so just the same as when you get to know someone you refer to them using their first name - so it will be with Herzog.'
