Baron de Ley moves to Bottle Green

Published:  23 July, 2008

Baron de Ley, one of Rioja's leading producers, is moving its UK off-trade representation from Stokes Fine Wines to Bottle Green.

The Grupo Baron de Ley comprises four wineries: the flagship winery of the same name, Baron de Ley, in Rioja Baja; Bodegas El Meson in Rioja Alavesa, specialists in Crianza wines; Finca Museum, a premium facility in the little-known Cigales region 250km from Rioja; and Bodegas Maximo, an ageing, blending and bottling cellar in Rioja, where specially made Vino de la Tierra de Castilla wines are prepared.

Jaime Echavarri, international director for the group, said: We have a long-term vision to become a big player within the premium Rioja sector in the UK and to achieve that we need to increase our presence in the multiples and the off-trade in general. These are challenging times in the UK market.

We believe that the proven quality of our wines combined with Bottle Green's position in the UK trade is the base we need to achieve our long-term goals.'
