Tesco to increase number of stores selling fine wine

Published:  23 July, 2008

Tesco is expanding the fine wine fixture it introduced in March - with both the number of lines and the number of stores that stock them being increased.

Jason Godley, wine category manager at the UK's biggest multiple, said the range would be significantly' increased and that he hoped to get some of the range into a further 100 stores. Currently around 50 stores take the full 50-strong range with another 90 stocking 25 of the range. Priced at between 10 and 50, the most popular lines so far have been at the lower end of the spectrum, such as 2003 Terrazas de los Andes Malbec Reserva and Villa Cafaggio Chianti Classsico (both 9.99).

The range in the South Kensington store has already been increased to 75 wines, with most priced between 35 and 80, with a number at more than 100.
