Glasses can breathe: it's official

Published:  23 July, 2008

Rhodes Twenty Four is pioneering the use of a new type of breathable glassware from Germany.

Eisch Glaskultur has taken five years to research and develop the glasses, which it claims will allow wines that would normally require at least an hour to breathe to evolve to their best within only four minutes. Yves Demaris, sommelier at Rhodes Twenty Four, is convinced of the potential of this invention and told Harpers: 'I think this concept is going to become a considerable time saver for everyone. Time is very precious, particularly in the City, and we would like to contribute by offering this service, which no one else has at the moment.'

According to Demaris, it is big red wines, such as Bordeaux and SuperTuscans, that benefit the most, and he hopes the glasses will allow him to recommend high-end wines which have previously been overlooked due to the time factor.
